The Italian has adjusted to life in England extremely well, and he has ended the conversation about Antonio Valencia being first choice with his performances on the pitch.
DF: Martin Skrtel
Still liable to make a mistake or suffer a lapse in concentration, Skrtel is a dominant defender on his day and gets in ahead of Daley Blind.
DF: Chris Smalling
Smalling has been given a big role this season by Van Gaal, and he has responded well with a string of impressive performances prior to the defeat to Swansea last time out.
DF: Luke Shaw
Joe Gomez has certainly impressed many with his early-season form, but Shaw is head and shoulders above him at this stage.
MF: James Milner
Milner adds some much needed drive and direction to the Liverpool midfield, while his work-rate is always a huge bonus in the defensive phase too.
MF: Bastian Schweinsteiger
Schneiderlin is unlucky to miss out but Schweinsteiger can be a bigger influence and boss a midfield contest against anyone. Either way, United are strongly represented in midfield.
MF: Juan Mata
Mata is still the most consistent creative force on either side at this stage, with Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana still not showing enough to warrant a spot in this line-up.
MF: Memphis Depay
Similarly to Mata, while he hasn’t particularly found his feet in the Premier League as of yet, he remains the most dangerous out of the options available especially with Philippe Coutinho out due to suspension.
ST: Wayne Rooney
Rooney has scored goals in Europe and with England, all that is missing now is to find the net in the league. His confidence is high ahead of the weekend, so he will fancy his chances against Liverpool.
ST: Christian Benteke
Still hasn’t quite found his feet an Anfield after his summer move from Aston Villa, but Benteke will certainly be a handful for sides up and down the league over the course of the season.
